Voluntary education (VolEd) opportunities are available to you regardless of where you serve. As a military member serving outside of the continental U.S. (OCONUS), you have access to a variety of options to help you begin or continue your education. Depending on your location, you may have access to these education services:

Central Command/Africa Command Downrange Areas:

In CENTCOM/AFRICOM, University of Maryland Global Campus provides onsite classes and education support for service members.

European Command

In EUCOM, there are two colleges/universities offering curriculum for service members:

Congratulations to the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) National Test Centers at Al Udeid, Aviano, Lakenheath, and Ramstein for earning the prestigious CLEP® Honors Military Achievement Award, recognizing them among the top 20 CLEP Military Test Centers!

The CLEP Honors Award, presented annually by College Board, celebrates National Test Centers that excel in administering high volumes of DANTES-funded CLEP exams. These exams empower service members to earn college credit, saving them time and money toward achieving college degrees.

UMGC Europe National Test Centers are honored to be recognized and support our military community in pursuit of their education and career goals!




293 students in the class of 2025 who walked the stage Saturday at commencement, with nearly 1,000 spectators on hand to bear witness.

This year’s class is one of the largest in the university’s history, according to university president Gregory Fowler.
